Cycling

There are a number of good cycle routes on the Estate

Discover the stunning landscapes and wildlife of Glenlivet as you cycle forest and moorland track and quiet winding road.

To get you started we've suggested a couple of routes, you'll need to plan your ride yourself and take along your own map as these routes are NOT waymarked. Please remember some tracks are shared with walkers, horse riders and estate vehicles, and follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code at all times.

If you need more help or advice in planning your route please contact us.

Glenmulliach viewpoint

Distance: 12km (6 miles) with 90% off-road

Follows forest roads with steady climb to viewpoint. Does require short section on A939 road.

Start in Tomintoul village and follow the old military road past the Glenlivet information centre and Estate Office until meeting the A939 Lecht road. Follow the road for 1km before turning off into Glenmulliach Forest. A forest road leads up to the viewpoint and onto the communications mast. There are rewarding views back over Tomintoul and to the distant Cairngorm Mountains. Retrace the route down from the viewpoint, or take a loop through the forest on your way back down for some added interest.

Glenconglass/carn daimh/glenlivet distillery

Distance: 28km (17 miles) with 70% off-road

Challenging, lengthy route but also highly rewarding. Varied terrain, may be muddy and exposed in places, crosses open field and moor.

Start from the Glenconglass car park (NJ 172 223) and follow the track alongside the Chabet water into the forest. Cross the Chabet water at the bridge and head up to the summit of Carn Daimh, following the forest tracks. There are spectacular views from this panoramic viewpoint. From the summit take the track into Carn Ellick woods (south east) and down to Tomnavoulin. Pick up the minor "Gallowhill road"which leads close to the Glenlivet Distillery and onto Drumin. At Drumin pick up the B9136 heading south as far as Altnaglander car park where a track leads up into the woods and back to the Carn Daimh forrest you climbed earlier. Retrace the track back to the car park.

Cairn Muldonich/Morinsh

Distance: 17.5km (10.5 miles) with 50% off-road

Off road sections are mainly forest track, long initial ascent but some excellent views.

Start at the car park at Allenreid (NJ 235 249) and head back along the public road before turning up into Cairn Muldonich forest plantation. Follow the track up through the woods, with lovley views over the Ladder Hills before entering the Forestry Commission plantation of Morinsh. Here a short diversion can be taken to explore the site of the Battle of Glenlivet. Follow the forest track down through Morinsh woods and out onto the B9009 to Auchbreck and towards Tomnavoulin, before turning back onto the minor road to Allenreid.

The Braes of Glenlivet

Distance: 20km (12 miles) with 95% off-road

Varied route, open and exposed in bad weather but accesses some remote and very attractive areas of countryside with excellant views onto the Ladder Hills. Can be rough and muddy.

Start at the car park at Allenreid (NJ 235 249) and head south, following a track alongside the River Livet, out across the moorland. The track swings round and follows along the foot of the Ladder Hills before reaching Ladderfoot. Continue on the track emerging onto the minor road at East Auchavaich Farm. From here follow the road to Achnascraw Farm and a rough track leads across fields and moorland to the Glack cottage, where you can cross the river and return to your start point.
